How Do You Properly Taste Whisky?

How Do You Properly Taste Whisky?

We have the perfect ‘how to’ guide on we recommend enjoying our Australian Single Malts:

1.      Choose the right glass - The best glass for our whiskies is our Morris Whisky x Denver & Liely crystal whisky glass. Hand-blown, hand-cut and hand-polished lead-free crystal is engineered for the perfect sip every time.

2.      Pour your choice of whisky – pour just enough to cover the bottom of the glass, which is usually around 30ml, giving you space to swirl and examine without spilling.

3.      Look at the colour – hold the glass at an angle and examine the colour. This will help you understand the cask influence and age.

4.      Swirl the whisky – gently swirl the whisky and allow the liquid to aerate, releasing more aromas. Take a deep, slow breath and try to pick out different scents (fruity, spicy, floral, earthy, oaky or smoky).

5.      Take a small sip – let the whisky coat your mouth and don’t rush, let it linger and think about the balance between sweetness, bitterness and fruitiness.

6.      Finish with the finish – after you swallow, pay attention to how the flavour lingers in your mouth, is it long lasting? Does it change as time goes on?
