The 1998 growing season was warm and dry, producing smaller, intensely flavoured crops that reached optimal ripeness three weeks earlier than usual. Harvested between 11th and 24th March, the grapes were hand-picked at 14.0º baumé and crushed into open fermenters, where the cap was gently submerged during fermentation. After 5–7 days on skins, the wine was pressed using a traditional basket press and matured for 18 months in large American oak casks, allowing the subtle oak character to integrate with the soft, rich fruit flavours.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES

COLOUR: Medium depth vibrant crimson.

AROMA: Lifted cherry and spicy fruit aromas and a hint of oak. 

PALATE: Full fruit flavour in the middle palate with a good length of lingering flavours, a light dry tannin finish and showing a good acid-fruit balance.

ABV: 14.4%
