The 2000 vintage began with budburst 14 days earlier than usual, followed by a growing season of evenly spread rainfall and cooler temperatures, producing fruit of exceptional quality and intense varietal flavour. The grapes were hand-picked at just over 14.0° baumé and crushed into open fermenters, with the skins submerged in the fermenting juice for around seven days to develop colour and extraction. After pressing with a traditional basket press, the wine was matured for 20 months in four- and five-year-old hogsheads, predominantly French oak with some American oak, allowing subtle oak characters to integrate with the rich fruit and support the wine’s natural structure.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES

COLOUR: Deep brickish red with purple overtones. 

AROMA: Lifted fresh aromas of rip blackcurrant and spicy fruits, complexed with subtle cedar influence. 

PALATE: Rich and yet supple, concentrated berry flavours integrated with fruit and oak tannins and good length of flavour. 

ABV: 14.3%
